According to information recently appearing in the
Sunday Times, banks are taking about £4.7 billion pounds in unlawful charges from their customers each year.
This amounts to about £90 for every adult and child
in the country (or up to £540 each over the last six years).
The average amount of these unlawful charges are
:
Excess Overdraft
£40.00
Returned Payment
£35.00
Credit Card Late Payment £28.00
Furthermore, most banks repeat the overdraft charge
for each day or time the account is further overdrawn.
One of the major moral objections to these charges
are that the poorer people in society, those closest to the limit of their financial means are being hit hardest by the charges.
Whatever your financial standing,
the fact is that these charges are wrong and everyone affected should claim what, at the end of the day, the banks owe them
back.
